Supremely talented and extremely gorgeous is how one can describe the late diva Sridevi. The angelic beauty was born on 13 August 1963 in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. The talented actress was originally named Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan but she is popular as Sridevi (her screen name). Her father Ayyapan was a lawyer and her mother Rajeshwari was a Telugu actress hailing from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. Sridevi has one sister and two step-brothers. She established herself as an actress and a producer, who has worked in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada film industries. Known for being the "Megastar" and "First Lady Superstar" and of the Indian cinema, Sridevi received several awards and accolades for her work.
She received several awards including a National Film Award, Tamil Nadu State Film Award, a Nandi Award, Kerala State Film Award, Filmfare Awards.
She is also the recipient of the Padma Shri Award which is the fourth-highest civilian award in the country. During 1980s and the 1990s, Sridevi was ranked as the highest paid female in entertainment industry in India. She is also regarded as the most influential woman in the history of Indian cinema.

When it comes to her career, Sridevi debuted on screen as a child artist in 1967 with the Tamil film Kandhan Karunai. She was just years old at that time. 1n the 1969 Tamil film Thunaivan, Sridevi played the lead role as a child. She worked as a child artist in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films and debuted in Hindi film at the age 9 with the 1972 film Rani Mera Naam.
She was 13 years old when she acted in an adult role in Moondru Mudichu (1976). After the film, Sridevi became the most sought after actress in South Indian Cinema. Her next projects were with actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Sridevi appeared in Malayalam films Angeekaram, Aa Nimisham and Satyavan Savithri. In 1981, she won a Filmfare Award for her performance in the Tamil film Meendum Kokila. She worked in several notable films in Telugu including Konda Veeti Simham, Vetagaadu, Sardar Paparayudu, Kshana Kshanam and Bobbili Puli. She won a Filmfare as the Best Actress for the film Kshana Kshanam in 1992. The film was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and had Venkatesh as the male lead. In most of the films which she played the female lead, Sridevi was paired with superstar Krishna. Solva Sawan (1979) was her first Hindi film as the protagonist and she went on to garner applaud with her magical performance in Himmatwala (1983). Since then, Sridevi delivered some memorable performances through her career. At the same time, she also acted with Akkineni Nagarjuna in the film Aakhari Porattam.

During her career, Sridevi acted as the female lead opposite Dharmendra and his son Sunny Deol, in different films. She went on to deliver some memorable performances in movies like Nagina, Mr. India Chandni and ChaalBaaz. She followed her success streak with Khuda Gawah and Gumrah.
In 1996, Sridevi got married to Bollywood filmmaker Boney Kapoor.
During 2004 to 2005, Sridevi appeared in the sitcom Malini Iyeer in which she essayed the titular role. Sridevi took a break from the film industry following the death of her mother due to brain cancer in 1997. Sridevi made a comeback to films in 2012 with the film English Vinglish. It was a huge hit and she then worked in the 2017 film Mom, which was her 300th film role. Following the acclaim she received through the years and the impact she had on females in the industry, Sridevi was voted as 'India's Greatest Actress in 100 Years' in a 2013 CNN-IBN national poll. The actress has always been extremely private about her personal life and may people have defined her as someone who is extremely extroverted and shy. Sridevi was allegedly in a relationship with actor Mithun Chakravarthy. At that time, she was friends with Mona Kapoor (wife of Boney Kapoor) and was staying at their place.

That was when the rumours of their affair started. Boney Kapoor has two children Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor from Mona Singh. Mona, who shared a good relationship with Sridevi was devastated by the news. Boney had left Mona and his children to be with Sridevi. They got married in 1996. Sridevi, who was already pregnant before marriage, gave birth to their eldest daughter Janhvi in 1997, and their younger daughter Khushi was born in 2000.
In 2018, Sridevi and her family were at Al Jazirah Al Hamra in Ras al-Khaimah, UAE, to attend Mohit Marwah’s wedding. The late actress decided to stay back to shop for Janhvi's 21st birthday. She went to take a shower while her husband waited in the living room. Noticing that the actress was taking unusually long, Boney knocked on the door and minutes later, there was news that Sridevi had passed away. She apparently drowned in the bathtub. Her funeral took place at the Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium, Mumbai on 28 February, 2018. The final rites were performed by her husband Boney Kapoor. The sudden demise of Sridevi left a lot of fans and colleagues heartbroken. Talking about the loss, Boney Kapoor posted on social media that “To the world, she was their Chandni, the actor par excellence, their Sridevi, but to me, she was my love, my friend, mother to our girls, my partner. To our daughters, she was their everything, their life.

Till date, Sridevi remains to be one of the most influential personalities in the Indian cinema. She has a pan-Indian appeal and that is what helped her gain the honourable mention in 100 best personalities in Indian cinema. During the period between 1983 and 1993, Sridevi was featured on the list of Box Office India's Top Actresses. From her divine looks to acting style and techniques, everything she did had a huge influence on several popular actresses including Kajol, Karisma Kapoor, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta, Juhi Chawla, Kareena Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, and more.
